Allen County shining example of coming together to address workforce improvements and economic development

The economic environment is turning around for America’s small businesses despite some lingering challenges from the recession that hit the nation in 2008-2009, according to a new report released today by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy, an independent office that serves as the voice for small business within the federal government.

The Small Business Economy 2012 demonstrates that small businesses have been at the core of our economy’s growth over the past few years,” said Dr. Winslow Sargeant, Chief Counsel for Advocacy.

BCE board member Jeff Sprague named president of Allen Economic Development Group

Bluffton resident Jeff Sprague was named president of the Allen Economic Development Group yesterday, succeeding outgoing president Marcel Wagner, who has held the position since 1994. He is a member of the Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs board.

The announcement was part of the Allen Economic Development Group five-year Leadership Transition Plan.

"As chair of the Allen Economic Development Board, I would like to thank Marcel for his years of service and appreciate his contribution to the Allen Economic Development Group," said Eric Pohjala, board chairman.

One-shop-do-it-all business owner workshop Friday, Jan. 11

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs, will hold a roundtable workshop for one-shop-do-it-all business owners and independent consultants for product lines.

The free workshop is at 8:45 a.m., Friday, Jan. 11, in the third floor of the Bluffton town hall.

The workshop follows the 7:30 a.m. January Bluffton chamber breakfast also held in the town hall.

The workshop will last about one hour.

“The Bluffton chamber and BCE have a special interest in helping small business owners succeed,” said Fred Steiner of the chamber. “We hope this workshop is the first of several to take place in 2013.”
