Daniel Kehrer, founder of, recently wrote a column on five ways to position your business for all the future funding you’ll need.

He said: "A common concern I often hear from business owners and startup entrepreneurs is where the money will come from to fund future growth. For some, that might require outside investors, which in turn can mean giving up partial ownership or control."

The American Grants and Loans Catalog is now available. Our new and revised 2013 edition contains more than 2800 financial programs, subsidies, scholarships, grants and loans offered by the US federal government.

In addition you will also have access to over 2400 programs funded by private corporations and foundations. That is over 5200 programs available through various sources of financial providing organizations.


BCE board member Jeff Sprague named president of Allen Economic Development Group

Bluffton resident Jeff Sprague was named president of the Allen Economic Development Group yesterday, succeeding outgoing president Marcel Wagner, who has held the position since 1994. He is a member of the Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs board.

The announcement was part of the Allen Economic Development Group five-year Leadership Transition Plan.

"As chair of the Allen Economic Development Board, I would like to thank Marcel for his years of service and appreciate his contribution to the Allen Economic Development Group," said Eric Pohjala, board chairman.

One-shop-do-it-all business owner workshop Friday, Jan. 11

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs, will hold a roundtable workshop for one-shop-do-it-all business owners and independent consultants for product lines.

The free workshop is at 8:45 a.m., Friday, Jan. 11, in the third floor of the Bluffton town hall.

The workshop follows the 7:30 a.m. January Bluffton chamber breakfast also held in the town hall.

The workshop will last about one hour.

“The Bluffton chamber and BCE have a special interest in helping small business owners succeed,” said Fred Steiner of the chamber. “We hope this workshop is the first of several to take place in 2013.”

Ohio Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award to be presented

The Ohio Chamber of Commerce announce that it will again award $25,000 to an outstanding up-and-coming Ohio company with the Ohio Chamber Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award at its 2013 Annual Meeting and Legislative Reception on April 10. The premise of the award is still the same – to recognize and promote entrepreneurship in Ohio.

Ropp Triplett, Bluffton community leader, BCE board member, memorial service Nov. 25

Community leader William Ropp Triplett, 92, of Bluffton, died Nov. 10, 2012, of natural causes. 

Mr. Triplett leaves behind a legacy of leadership and creativity that blessed his family, friends and community.  He was instrumental in Bluffton’s recreational venues, helping small businesses succeed and his innovative Christmas displays.  He also was dedicated to the associates of the family business, The Triplett Corporation, Bluffton.
